This Sweet Corn Hopi Plaque Basket is used for payback and for ceremonies. This rare and unusual basket was woven by Dorleen Gashweseoma and has the colors of the sweet corn in the weave. These baskets are made by plaiting sumac, natural and dyed, to achieve many designs. Many of the Hopi wickers, coils, and sifters are used for social or ceremonial purposes.
